He or she, what’ll it be?!

One of the first questions parents are asked when they announce they’re expecting is whether it’s a boy or a girl. This has led to the phenomenon that is the gender reveal party. With so many unique ways to share the news with your friends and family, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite ways to make this exciting announcement that will hopefully inspire you!

Popping confetti balloons

This can be a really fun game if you’re hosting a party (or filming it) for far-away friends and family. By filling a number of opaque balloons with neutral (white/gold/silver) confetti, you can have a contest to see who pops the one filled with pink or blue confetti first. Most party supply stores will fill balloons with the confetti for you when they are inflated so no one has to have the surprise spoiled before the party. You can do this carnival style (attached to a pegboard and throw darts) or you can have helium balloons on weights scattered around the room and have guests strategically guess which one has the answer.

The answer’s in the cake

Always a party favorite is the gender reveal cake! There are lots of variations on this, but our favorite involves candy hiding in the center, only to fall out when you cut into it. Just like party supply stores and the balloons, most bakeries will make this cake for you and save the surprise if you provide them an envelope with the baby’s gender written inside. Some of the best versions involve white cakes, white icing and minimal colored decoration.

Kids say it best

If this isn’t your first baby, it’s always fun to get your kids involved, after all, they do say the darndest things! A great way to get your kids involved in this exciting time is for them to reveal the answer to you. Depending on their age, you may want to have a friend or family member step in to assist as well (at least to read the results). Get a small amount of (water-based) paint in blue and pink, close your eyes, and wait. Your child can then pick the associated color and either do nice handprints on Mom’s belly, or have a bit more fun and smear it all over Mom and Dad!

There are so many fun and unique ways to reveal whether you’re having a boy or a girl. Different themes and activities can be combined in order to create your perfect memory of this moment. If you want more ideas and inspiration for gender reveals, check out our Pinterest boards!
